Here's Looking at You!

Here's looking at you, from my deck!

Our gobbler friends returned Saturday, I counted 18 this time.  They hung out around the house for about eight hours, first in the front yard, then they nested in the trees between our house and the neighbor's, and then in the back yard.

They are used to being around people. I would stand with my camera and they would approach me, coming to within five feet or so.  Then, in the afternoon, a couple hopped up on our deck which stands over 10 feet off the ground.  Here, one is walking on our deck railing.  Below, is another view.

I fear the birds will become a nuisance soon enough, but for now, I will enjoy the company.

It's all in the Faces

It was late in a very bad basketball game, Nebraska was losing by over 20 points with five minutes to go, and all the photographers were wondering why in the world were we still there taking photos late in a meaningless game. Well, I got my answer after the game as the players were coming off the court and I captured this image of the star player looking for answers somewhere as the empty seats and the scoreboard help tell the story of the game.

Below is another shot of the same player looking alone - and lost - on the court.

And finally below, the same player takng a moment after the game, under the stands, signing his name to a young fan's shirt.  I give the player some credit for being kind enough to sign the shirt as the season crumbles around him, and his team.

Snow Birds

Winter finally hit these parts of the Midlands this week, and with the snow, our birds depend on us even more for food.  We had birds at our feeders all day yesterday while it snowed, and again today.  While it was snowing, I captured this female cardinal waiting its turn on the feeder.  I like photos of birds contrasted with the snow, and this one turned out well considering the light was primarily behind the bird.  Hopefully, I will get more birds over the next few days.

Fashion Statement - Pink

What a fashion statement - pinstripes with cuffs, and pink sneakers!

Creighton had a Creighton vs Cancer "Pinkout" Night this past weekend, with the players wearing special pink warmups and had pink lettering on their white home jerseys instead of the traditional blue lettering. Oh year, the players wore pink shoes, as did the coaches.  The night was an awareness night for Cancer research with moneys being donated for cancer research.  The player's jerseys were also auctioned off.

Was the event successful?  The largest crowd in Creighton basketball history showed up, 18,426, and they watched Creighton gain its 20th victory of the season as they defeated Bradley 73-59.

Below is what the players shoes looked like.

Red, White, and Blue

I have been shooting some Creighton basketball games this year. The team has hovered around the Top 25 all year, in part due to its standout sophomore, Doug McDermott who just happens (?) to be the son of the coach, Greg McDermott.

In every game, I try to include photos of the coaches, and since Doug is the star player on the team, I certainly want photos of him as well.  I want unique photos, in addition to the basic game action photo.

I captured a couple nice photos at a recent game.  I was on one end of the floor at the start of the game where the teams come together for a handshake at center court.  Doug was walking toward me, in his pregame sweats, and I captured him was the color guard passed behind him.  So I have a All-American candidate with the Red-White-and Blue behind him.

I also got a photo of both McDermotts standing together on the sidelines.  I have been waiting for this photo all season and finally got one of the two of them during the game.
